The Head of the Petrochemical Engineering Department, PUA’s Faculty of Engineering congratulated Petro Team on its honorable representation of PUA and Egypt, and on reaching the semi-finals of the Hult Prize 2023 competition. This competition is being held at Tunis Business School, in the presence of the Tunisian Minister of Higher Education along with several public figures.

It is worth noting that Petro Team is the only Egyptian team that managed to qualify for the semi-finals stage out of 35 teams from different countries such as France, UK, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Palestine and Libya. This competition aims to promote competitiveness between student teams from different international universities by presenting prototypes for innovative projects in the field of clothing and fashion. These projects are then turned into startups that support environmental and social sustainability.

In addition, Hult Prize inspires student entrepreneurs to solve the world’s biggest challenges through innovative social enterprises with a positive global impact. The university students then work to establish startup companies that address the annual challenge proposed in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

After that, the finalists demonstrate their work to a panel of expert judges, and the winning team receives $1 million in funding to realize their idea. The team was able to come up with an innovative idea to improve the flammability of polyurethane by using natural, environmentally friendly and inexpensive materials. It is also worth noting that polyurethane is used in many industries, including the manufacture of synthetic leather, furniture, and textiles. The team has reached promising results for improving the mechanical and thermal performance.
