I graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University in 1981, and was appointed demonstrator in the same place. Upon completion of my Masters and PhD I was seconded to Beirut Arab University where I was acting chairperson from 1998-2001. I became a professor in 2005 and held several administrative posts at universities and the Library of Alexandria, including Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation at Pharos University from 2009-2011. My publications include numerous articles and books published in Egypt, England, America and Lebanon,

Amr M. El-Zawawy is Professor of Linguistics and Translation. He obtained his MA and Ph.D. from the Department of English Language and Literature, Fac­ulty of Arts, Alexandria University, Egypt, between 2005 and 2013. He obtained his professorship in 2023. He has also practiced writ­ten and simultaneous translation for more than eight years now. He has contributed important articles to different scholarly journals, and is interested in simultaneous interpretation, cognitive linguistics, literary translation, contrastive linguistics, syntax and semantics.

Nadia Touba worked as a professor of English Language Methodology at Alexandria University for most of her professional career. She has also worked as the Director of the English Studies Division at the American University in Cairo. Until recently she was the Director of the Nile Egyptian Schools project which is in partnership with Cambridge International Examinations CIE. She has played the leadership role in several high level projects in Egypt like developing education standards, developing and implementing the first Egyptian standardized tests for teacher placement in the Egyptian Teachers’ Cadre and leading the development of the first Egyptian standards-based textbook to introduce the teaching of English to very young learners. She has worked with English Testing Services ETS in Princeton to develop a course and tests that are internationally administrated. She is also a consultant for the Commission for Academic Accreditation in the Emirates.

The project involved over 400 consultants and the work proceeded in collaboration with Education Testing Services ETS. The test is the first high risk and large scale standardized test for teachers in the Middle East.
  • Team Leader for developing three Egyptian textbooks for introducing the English Language to grades 1 to 3 in the national system in 2003. The series title is “Hand in Hand”.
  • Adapted the Egyptian Edition of the Oxford series “English Time”, the Egyptian edition is called “Time for English” and is currently adopted at the national level in Egypt from grade 1 to 6.

I have received a master’s degree from the same university in Madrid, Spain, in the Faculty of Spanish Philology, entitled “Human Rights in the Poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca” with honors. I obtained a PHD in Spanish Philology from the University of Complutense in Madrid with a distinction of honor with honors, entitled “Surrealism in the poetry of Federico García Lorca” and became a general specialist in contemporary Spanish literature, and meticulous specialization Spanish contemporary poetry.

I have been teaching Arabic to non-native speakers during my PhD in Madrid from 2009 to 2016 at the Arab House of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to teaching Spanish to Egyptians and Arabs. I am fluent in both the following languages: English, French and Spanish.
