Postgraduate Programs

 

PUA’s Faculty of Dentistry offers the following postgraduates degrees and programs:

  1. Master’s Program in Prosthodontics and Implantology
  2. Master’s Program in Pediatric Dentistry
  3. Master’s Program in Restorative Dentistry
  4. Master’s Program in Endodontics

Study System:

Credit hours system.

Academic-Year Calendar:

  1. Autumn semester: – starts in October, a fifteen-week semester excluding the final exams.
  2. Spring semester: – starts in February, a fifteen-week semester excluding the final exams.
  3. Summer semester: – starts in July, an eight-week semester, excluding the final exams.

Registration period:

  1. Application forms are presented at the Admission and Registration Administration at the beginning of August, for the fall semester and the beginning of January for the spring semester.
  2. Registration takes place at the faculty, for one week, as announced before the academic year.

Master’s Program in Prosthodontics and Implantology

Special Privileges

  1. Faculty’s teaching assistants wishing to enroll in the program shall receive a 30% tuition fee discount.
  2. In case of scoring “A” grade, the Faculty shall appoint the student as an assistant teacher in the same major.

Registration dates:

For the Fall semester, enrollment applications open at the beginning of July. However, for the Spring semester, enrollment applications open in mid-January. Applications shall be submitted to the Postgraduate Admissions and Registration Department, and the course registrations will remain open for a week (to be announced by the Faculty).

Study Dates:

Fall semester: starts in October and last for a certain number of weeks as set in PUA’s annual academic calendar.

Spring semester: starts in February and last for a certain number of weeks as set in PUA’s annual academic calendar.

 

Study Rules:

General Conditions for Admission and Registration:

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in Dentistry awarded from a national university or any equivalent degrees with a cumulative grade not less than good (C), and a grade not less than good (C) in the major. All degrees must be accredited and recognized by the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities. Furthermore, applicants must have practical experience in dentistry for at least two years since graduation, including the mandatory training year (internship).
  • However, if the cumulative grade in the bachelor stage is satisfactory (D), applicants will then need to study complementary courses determined by the relevant department and pass them with a grade not less than good (C). These courses will not be calculated within the master’s program hours.
  • Before registering their theses, students must pass a foreign language proficiency test with a certain score to be determined by the Faculty board (such as local TOEFL) with a score of at least 450 marks, or its equivalent (IELTS) with a score of at least 7 marks.

 

Required Papers and Documents:

  • Enrollment application.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • A transcript of records indicating all the courses applicants have studied and grades obtained throughout their academic years in the bachelor or postgraduate stages.
  • A Birth certificate, a true copy, or a certified photo copy thereof.
  • A copy of the national ID card.
  • A military service status certificate for male applicants, whether a certificate of completion, permanent exemption, or temporary exemption. All these certificate must be valid for at least one year from the date of the start of study.
  • For employed applicants, an approval from the employer to allow the applicants to attend 3 full time days a week. Such renewal shall be renewed annually throughout the years of enrollment.
  • An acknowledgment from the applicants stating that they are not currently enrolled in any postgraduate programs, whether within the same faculty or any other faculties in Egyptian universities and higher institutes.
  • An acknowledgment stating the applicants have not been previously enrolled in the college degree being applying to. If they have been previously enrolled, they need to indicate the reasons for dropping out before obtaining the degree.
  • 4 recent personal photographs.
  • A Portfolio indicating successful payment of tuition fees.

Master’s program :

  • Admission and Registration Rules:
  1. Holders of Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry and oral and dental surgery – minimum general grade Good, and Very Good in the field of specialization or the equivalent of this grade from one of the universities recognized by the Supreme Council in the field of speciality, or from an equivalent foreign university.
  2. In case the applicant is granted a Pass in his bachelor’s degree and wants to register for a master’s degree, he must obtain a specialty diploma with general grade (Good) at least, or pass the complementary courses determined by the department, with a general grade no less than good and these courses are not part of the hours of the program.
  3. The student should pass a specific level in the Institutional TOEFL, as decided by the council of the faculty.
  • Study System:
  1. 42 credit hours for the courses, in addition to 8 credit hours for the thesis, total of which is 50 credit hours, according to the study plan.
  2. Minimum 2 years after registration to obtain Master’s Degree.

Clinical Diploma:

Includes conservative dentistry, fixed Prosthodontics and Implant, removable Prosthodontics and Endodontics.

  • Registration rules:
  1. Holders of Bachelor’s degree in Oral and Dental Surgery or the equivalent from one of the universities recognized by the Supreme Council in the field of specialty, or from an equivalent foreign university.
  • Study System:

 44 credit hours, including 9 credit hours for the preliminary mandatory semester, according to the study plan. No less than grade (C) should be obtained in the subjects studied.

  3. A detailed transcript containing the studied courses and grades obtained while studying for the bachelor’s .
  4. Birth certificate or a stamped copy.
  5. A copy of the ID.
  6. Military status for males, whether completion, final exemption or temporary exemption (valid for at least one year that starts at the beginning of the academic year).
  7. The approval of the employer that allows the student to study two days every week, and to be renewed annually throughout study years.
  8. An avowal by the student that he is not registered in any postgraduate program, either in the same faculty or any other faculty in the universities or higher institutes in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
  9. An avowal by the student that he has never enrolled to obtain the same degree, if he did so, reasons for dropping out of course before obtaining the degree should be given.
  10. Four recent photos of the student.
