The CSED Council Kicked off Its 1st Meeting for the Academic Year 2018-2019

The Council for Community Service and Environmental Development  (CSED) kicked off its first meeting for the academic year 2018-2019 on Tuesday, 25 December 2018. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Ramadan Abu El-Ala, the Vice President of Community Service and Environment Development Affairs. This was held in the presence of Prof. Hisham El Shimy, the Director of the Community Service and Environmental Development Centre, representatives from all PUA faculties and other external members; Eng. Khaled Alsayed, the Chairman of the Board of Alex Fertilizers Company and Major General Waheed Radwan, the President of East Alex District. At the outset of the meeting, all the attendees stood a moment of silence in mourning for Mr. Mohamed Ragab, the founder of Pharos University and the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Prof. Ramadan Abu El-Ala showed the attendees a report on all the proposals which have been approved by the CSED Council last year; all of them reflected the real needs of society and were put into force through working in cooperation with some community associations for public work. The Council also approved forming cooperation between the faculty of Arts and Design- Pharos University and the East Alexandria District Presidency to create a mural on the sea corniche for depicting Alexandria City. On his part, the President of East Alex District expressed his content of this cooperation between Pharos University and the Presidency. Then, he promised to refer the students, who have received medical examination on the PUA medical convoys and needed medical care to the Director of the Educational Administration affiliated to the East Alexandria District Presidency in order to gain approval on receiving medical treatment in Pharos University. It has also agreed upon establishing a pharmacy which will only be dedicated for receiving valid medications in order to give them for the needy. Accordingly, a committee was formed from academic staff members from the faculties of Pharmacy and Dentistry, along with administrative staff from the CSED Council; its mission is to draw up the plan of receiving and distributing medications among the needy. Prof. Ramadan Abu El-Ala invited the civil work associations to participate in the workshop organised by the CSED Council and the Training Centre under the title of “The Mechanism of Establishing and Evaluating a Register for the Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection inside the Industrial, Medical and Tourism Establishments and Constructive Works”. By the end of the meeting, recommendations were made to activate the new proposals; a step that will be a credit for the CSED Council and a completion for its achievements during the last years.

Pharos University Sent a Medical Aid Convoy to King Mina Elementary School

Within the framework of the community service endeavours made by Pharos University, a medical aid convoy was organized in coordination with the Education Directorate in Alexandria in order to be sent to “King Mina Elementary School” on Tuesday, 11December 2018. A delegation of staff members from different PUA faculties went in this convoy including the faculty of Dentistry, the faculty of Physical Therapy and the faculty of Allied Medical Sciences. The staff of the faculty of dentistry offered 400 primary students free medical examinations and distributed toothbrushes and toothpastes among them. Meanwhile, the Physical Therapy delegates gave the students some useful advices on how to improve their postures and properly carry their school backpacks. The students also watched a video, made by the staff of the faculty of Allied Medical Sciences on the importance of healthy eating and the model weight and height for children of their age. Other academic staff members also went in the convoy, including Prof. Hisham Elshimy, the Director of the PUA Community Service and Environmental Development Centre as well as some of the center’s staff like Dr. Essam Ghoniem, Dr. Rania Hassan, Dr. Sherief Darwish, Dr. Mostafa Matter, Dr. Nancy Badwan, Teacher Assistant. Fathy Shokry, Eng. Amr Mamdouh, Ms. Aya Elrakaybey and Ms. Basma Naguib, one of the administrative staff of the PUA Community Service and Environmental Development Centre.

Within the framework of the community service endeavours exerted by Pharos University, a medical aid convoy set off to the Martyr Waleed Sobhy School on Tuesday 27/11/2018. The convoy was sent in coordination with the Education Directorate in Alexandria. The PUA delegation was comprised of staff members of some PUA faculties including the faculty of Dentistry, the faculty of Physical Therapy and the faculty of Allied Medical Sciences. The staff of the faculty of dentistry offered 300 primary students free medical examinations and distributed toothbrushes and toothpastes among them. Meanwhile, the Physical Therapy delegates gave the students some useful advices on how to improve their postures and to properly carry their school backpacks. The school students also watched a video, made by the staff of the faculty of Allied Medical Sciences on the importance of healthy eating and the ideal weight and height for their age. Other academic staff members also went in the convoy; Prof. Hisham Elshimy, Dr. Essam Ghoniem, Dr. Rania Hassan, Teacher Assistant. Fathy Shokry, Eng.   • A Coordination Meeting for PUA Medical Aid Convoys

On Sunday, October 28, PUA Community Service and Environmental Development Centre held a meeting to coordinate the setting off of PUA medical aid convoys for the academic year 2018-2019. The meeting, chaired by Prof. Ramadan Abu El-Ala, the Vice President of Community Service and Environment Development Affairs, was held to discuss the possible arrangements could be made for sending medical aid convoys to the neighbourhood primary schools on Tuesday 27/11/2018 and Tuesday 11/12/2018. The convoys are going to set off, with the participation of teams from the faculties of Dentistry, Physical Therapy and Allied Medical Sciences. The meeting was held in the presence of Prof. Hisham El Shimy, the Director of PUA Community Service and Environmental Development Centre; Mr. Nasef Maher, the Director of the Community Service Department in the Directorate of Education and academic staff members.

  • The 2nd Meeting of PUA Community Service Council

The 2nd meeting of PUA council for community service and environment development was held on Tuesday 21/11/2017. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Ramadan Abu El-Ala, the Vice President of Community Service and Environment Development Affairs. Some representatives of PUA faculties and centres for community service affairs attended the meeting. It was also held in the presence of Major General Dr. Emad Abdel Rady, the Director of the Navy Hospital; Mr. Goma Zakry, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education; Mr. Sayed Gabeel, the Head of the Economic News Department at Al Watan Newspaper and Dr. Mervet Abdel Majeed, on behalf of Mr. Waheed Radwan, the President of East Alex District. During the meeting, the council discussed a proposal for a form of community service activities, the plans to be implemented by the community service bylaw for all faculties and the issue of developing the solar energy systems in the governmental buildings.

  • Pharos University Council for the Community Service & Environment Development Affairs

Pharos University Council for the Community Service & Environment Development Affairs, headed by Prof. Ramadan Abu El-Ala, the Vice President of Community Service & Environment Development Affairs, assembled with a board of representatives of all faculties of Pharos University. The meeting was convened between Pharos University Council for the Community Service & Environment Development Affairs and Mr. Gomaa Zaki, the First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education in Alexandria as well as Mr. Amr Al –Far, the Deputy Editor- in – Chief and the Director of Algomhuria Newspaper Office in Alexandria.

During the meeting, the Council approved the report of the academic year 2015/ 2016 and the proposed plan of the academic year 2016/ 2017. Among the main recommendations of the meeting were the necessity of establishing a media centre for Pharos University in order to communicate with other media institutions and websites as well as a certified translation office for Pharos University. It has also been agreed upon holding the upcoming meeting on Tuesday 28/3/2017.

  • Pharos Medical team to educate school students

Pharos University is vigilantto participate in social services and this is followed up on  byMr Mohamed Ragab, President of the Board of Trustees. A Medical team was formed for the Airport Primary School which comprises students living in the same geographic area as Pharos University. This was under the supervision of Professor Ramadan AbuEllaa Vice President of the University.
The team included three working groups:

  1. A working group from Faculty of Dentistry that included Professor Hamdiya Abu Bakr, Dr. Sherif Darwich, Dr. Nancy Ramez,  Dr. Moustafa Mattar and some students and nurses. A cultural film was shown about dental care and toothbrushes and toothpaste were distributed to students and they were advised about dental care. 250 students were examined and 170 of them were transferred to the Children’s Unit at the University.
  2. A working group from the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences that included Professor Mervat Salah the Faculty Vice Dean, Dr. Naglaa Mohamed and Ms Maha El Komy.A film was shown about general health issues and 70 students were examined and 29 students were transferred to for follow up at the university.
  3. A working group from the Faculty of Physical Therapy that included Professor Mona ElSayed Ahmed Vice Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Mohamed Albagoury Surgery Director and some students. A film about hygiene was shown and 60 students were examined and 40 were transferred to Faculty for follow up suffering from back and limb pain.

The team was accompanied by Dr. Hisham Alsheimy, the Executive Director of Center for Social Services at the University, and Mr. Mohamed Saleh, Ms Houssniys Mahmoud responsible for Public Relations in addition to some students.

The students of Pharos University participated in the celebrations of the Northern Military Sector on the occasion of the recognition of fallen heroes of the families in the area. This took place on Wednesday 30th November 2016.The student participation was a worthy suggestion made by the military because it created a positive sentiment among the families and feelings of patriotism and belonging among the students.
On the evening of the same day, Professor RamadanAbuElaa, the Vice President of Pharos University, accepted a Certificate of Appreciation and an Honorary Shield presented by Field Marshall Mohamed AlZamlout as gratitude for Pharos University and the Ragab Group for their participation in the project that was inaugurated by the Egyptian President.
