Medical Convoys to Special Needs Facilities

PUA’s Faculty of Dentistry recently embarked on a series of visits to facilities dedicated to aiding children with mental disabilities in Alexandria. These facilities included the Maharat Center for People with Special Needs and the Gifted, Cartias City, the Life for All Society, the Muhammad Rashid Association, and the Saint Jean Antide Institute.

Participating in these visits were the Community Service and Environmental Development Committee, alongside the Department of Pediatric and Community Dentistry. Throughout the visits, the Faculty delegation conducted a comprehensive health survey to assess the oral and dental well-being of children across these diverse centers. Additionally, they provided educational sessions to caregivers on oral hygiene maintenance practices.

Furthermore, the delegation gifted essential items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste to the children, accompanied by health information brochures to their parents and caregivers. This health survey constituted an integral component of a community-focused research endeavor undertaken by senior students, titled “Implementing a Dental Caries Educational Program for Caregivers of Institutionalized Intellectually Disabled Children in Alexandria, Egypt.”
