As part of PUA’s student activities programs, PUA’s Faculty of Arts and Design held a workshop on “Recycling and Using Environmental Products in Interior Design.” Dr. Mahitab Al-Sayed, Lecturer, Décor Department delivered this workshop, which seeks to highlight the concept of recycling, and its role in remanufacturing and using waste products in general, and interior design products in particular.

This means that products be used more than once, and recover unwanted and discarded materials such as paper, rubber, and glass. These materials would be then used as is, or as raw materials producing new materials of economic and environmental benefit, such as interior designs and cardboard furniture.

By early 1990s, indirect recycling began to gain popularity, which is using waste materials to manufacture other products based on the same raw material, such as recycling iron, aluminum, glass, paper, and others.

Hence, recycling has become one of the most important methods of waste disposal. It directly solves the problem of depletion of non-renewable resources and the increasing amount of waste. This, in turn, requires searching for appropriate alternatives and solutions that don’t cause further depletion of these resources. It also helps avoid purchasing or importing new raw materials by recycling these wastes.
