Celebration of the World Pulses Day (10th of February) Event

Goals:Within the framework of the interest of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Technology in community service and environmental development activities, the Community Service and Environmental Development Committee, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Ezzat Hassan – Dean, Prof. Dr. Hamdi Al-Wakeel – Vice Dean and Head of the Department of Nutrition, and Prof. Dr. Amany Salama – Professor of Clinical Nutrition and Coordinator of the Committee for Community Service and Environmental Development with the Nutrition Department staff have prepared to revive the celebration of the World Pulses Day (February) in recognition of the importance of pulses in achieving the scheduled 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particular related to Goals 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 12, 13 and 15 of the Sustainable Development Goals, for a healthy diet and an opportunity to raise awareness and recognition of the contribution of pulses to sustainable diets and healthy diets.
World Pulses Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of their nutritional benefits and their contribution to sustainable food systems and to building a world without hunger. Pulses are critical to addressing the challenges of poverty and food security, human health and nutrition, soil health and the environment, thus contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Hand in Hand initiative of FAO.

The Nutrition Department prepared awareness posters and flyers, along with packaged dishes containing fresh vegetable salad supported by red beans and boiled chickpeas with honey mustard sauce. In addition to cups of hot lentil soup to be distributed to students, workers and staff in the faculty building who attended the celebration with awareness flyers.
