PUA Launches the International Conference of Tourism and Language

Fostering interdisciplinary academic research and expanding international scholarly networks, PUA’s Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management alongside the Faculty of Languages and Translation announced the upcoming “International Conference on Tourism and Language: Discourse, Identity, and Narrative.” Both faculties officially invite researchers, scholars, and industry professionals to submit research papers exploring the dynamic intersections among tourism, hospitality, language, and cultural representations. The conference provides a platform to examine how discourse and language shape tourist experiences, form destination brand identities, and cultivate intercultural communication.

The conference features distinguished international keynote speakers, led by Prof. Dr. Lorna Carson, Professor of Applied Linguistics and Director of the Trinity Centre for English Language Learning and Teaching at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Carson will present a paper titled “Languages of Belonging: Multilingualism, Inclusion, and Spatial Narratives,” highlighting language’s vital role in cultural representation. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Francisco Franco-Sánchez, Professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Alicante, Spain, will deliver a keynote lecture titled “Al-Andalus, an Increasingly Contemporary Historical Reality: Between Historical Fact and Myths,” analyzing the interplay between collective memory and historical narratives within modern discourse.

The conference framework embraces key research tracks including tourist discourse and communication analysis, language and identity in cultural representation, destination narrative construction and branding, and intercultural dynamics alongside multilingualism. PUA extends an open invitation to global scholars to join this academic platform, driving forward innovative research that connects linguistic methodologies with global tourism strategies.
