Within the framework of its plan for community service and environmental development, PUA has adopted dispatching several medical convoys periodically under the supervision of Prof. Ramadan Abu El-Ala, President of Community Service & Environment Development Affairs. Accordingly, a medical convoy was prepared for a nursing home in Al Ras Al-Souda, in cooperation between the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Technology.

To enhance the university’s role in community service and environmental development, the coordinators of the Community Service and Environmental Development Committee in the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Technology, under the auspices of Prof. Ramadan Abu El-Ala, President of Community Service & Environment Development Affairs, contributed in dispatching a medical convoy for nursing home at the Health Improvement Association for Elderly Women in Al Ras Al-Souda.

Dentists from the two said faculties along with resident doctors carried out health education on dental care and examined the residents to determine their clinical needs. Further, an agreement was reached with the home’s officials to transfer the elderly women to the Faculty of Dentistry, Pharos University by a bus provided by the home to receive the necessary service and care free of charge.

Physicians from the Faculty of Health Sciences Technology from the Department of Nutrition, Medical Laboratories, Dental Prosthesis, and some resident doctors conducted nutritional health education for the home residents, a nutritional screening, and provided some health tips and instructions for the kitchen staff.

At the end of the visit, gifts were presented to the residents of the home in a family atmosphere.

Awareness activities

  1. Increasing awareness about dental care and urging periodic examination, diagnosis and treatment.
  2. Encouraging giving due care to conducting routine lab tests periodically.
  3. Increasing awareness about how proper nutrition and dietary diversity contribute in maintaining health.
  4. Encourage physical activity as part of daily life.
