Integrating AI into “Medicinal Plants” Course

In a move reflecting PUA’s Faculty of Pharmacy’s commitment to digital transformation, the “Medicinal Plants” course witnessed an innovative educational experience by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) to simplify scientific content. Under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Samar Bassam, course instructor, and with the support of Prof. Dr. Maged El-Ghazouly, Professor of Pharmacognosy and Dean of the Faculty, this initiative aimed to create an interactive learning environment that transcends traditional methods by linking academic curricula with students’ personal talents.

The initiative began with an unconventional question posed to the students: “What are your talents? What do you love to do?” This prompted students to explore creative ways to present academic material. Responding to this challenge, first-year student Tasneem Zayed presented an outstanding model by utilizing AI tools to design an animated video explaining a complete lecture on “Medical Natural Products,” transforming complex data into an engaging and easily digestible visual story.

This experiment received widespread acclaim from both faculty members and students, proving the effectiveness of technology in enhancing learning outcomes and deepening understanding. Through this initiative, the faculty reaffirms its ongoing support for innovation and its dedication to providing students with modern technical tools. This approach contributes to preparing a generation of creative pharmacists capable of harnessing technology to serve their scientific and professional fields in the future.
