Pharos University in Alexandria places great importance on scientific research, as it is one of the most important pillars of scientific excellence at the local, regional, and international levels. Therefore, the university is keen to achieve the highest standards of research excellence while adhering to scientific research ethics during the conduct of research activities.
The rapid development in the fields of science and technology requires that the governing regulations keep pace with this development, and that regulatory bodies interact with it to achieve a balance between regulation and empowerment. Therefore, an executive regulation has been developed for the work of the Research Ethics Committee at Pharos University in Alexandria (PUA-REC). The primary objective of these regulations is to implement standard ethical standards for scientific research, raise awareness of the importance of the committee’s scope of work, and prevent the possibility of any ethical violations in research conduct that could negatively impact the university’s academic reputation. Therefore, these regulations were formulated to regulate work in this important field and to keep pace with the ongoing developments in vital research. The PUA-REC prepared and drafted the regulations through committee members, collecting as many local and international regulations, rules, and references as possible related to the field of biological research, in order to scrutinize and ethically review research related to living creatures.
The committee seeks to strengthen ethical standards in all research procedures by raising awareness and providing consultations to researchers and university faculty members. The committee also aims to preserve the rights of researchers and scientific research supervisors and to protect the rights and interests of participants in scientific research.
To achieve ethical controls in all steps of scientific research to meet international standards for research quality.
