Arts & Design Hosts MOSAICS International Workshop

PUA’s Faculty of Arts and Design hosted the international workshop “MOSAICS” titled “Modern Stories Across Identity & Cultural Symbolism”, under the organizational umbrella of PUA’s International Relations Department and in joint cooperation with the University of Naples Federico II in Italy. This international academic forum featured a broad and qualitative participation of elite professors, researchers, and students from both the Egyptian and Italian sides, aiming to consolidate cultural dialogue and advance contemporary design thinking.

The workshop commenced in the presence of PUA officials and Vice Presidents. Opening welcoming speeches emphasized the strategic importance of international academic cooperation in advancing scientific research and supporting creative education, followed by a presentation showcasing the outcomes of the previous “GRAPHS” workshop as the foundational stepping stone for “MOSAICS”. The scientific program featured a series of specialized lectures delivered by Prof. Dr. Alfonso Morone, Prof. Dr. Ivo Caruso, and researcher Mariarita Gagliardi, focusing on cultural identity, visual language, traditional crafts, and their role in developing modern design solutions.

The workshop activities extended beyond academics to encompass field trips to the Greco-Roman Museum, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and the Pyramids of Giza, providing participants with an opportunity to explore Egypt’s rich cultural heritage and draw inspiration for their creative works. The event concluded with an exhibition displaying joint student projects resulting from the collaboration between both universities, alongside a closing ceremony asserting the workshop’s success in achieving its goals of fostering cultural dialogue, developing creative thinking skills, and strengthening international academic partnerships.
