A Field Visit to IKEA Exhibition in New Cairo
PUA’s Architectural Engineering Department conducted a field visit for freshman student to the IKEA exhibition in New Cairo, within the requirements of the Architectural Drawing 2 course (EBS 143). The visit was supervised by Dr. Norhan Haredi and Dr. Taghreed Ahmed, course instructors, along with teaching assistants Eng. Laura Nabil and Eng. Ola Salam.
During the visit, students conducted precise measurements of various furniture units on display and examined full-scale mock-ups of residential units provided by IKEA. These models offered students a unique opportunity to study innovative interior design solutions, with particular focus on three key aspects: optimal utilization of interior spaces, functional distribution of elements within living spaces, and careful planning of movement paths to ensure comfort and efficiency.
The organizers emphasized that this practical experience represents a fundamental step in expanding students’ theoretical and practical horizons in architectural design, directly connecting the theoretical principles they study with real-world applications in interior and furniture design. By the end of the visit, the students praised the visit, considering it an invaluable addition to their understanding of functional and aesthetic design requirements.
