A Field Visit to Egypt Telegraph Website

PUA’s Faculty of Mass Communication organized a field visit for its students to the headquarters of “Egypt Telegraph” Website. The visit included a group of sophomore and senior students from the Digital Platforms Department, aiming to refine their professional skills and link academic curricula with the practical reality of the digital journalism industry.

The students commenced the tour with an extensive meeting with the prominent journalist Mr. Sami Abdel-Radi, Website’s Editor-in-Chief, who engaged them in an open dialogue about the fundamentals of field journalism. During the meeting, the Editor-in-Chief emphasized the centrality of reading and general knowledge for media students, citing the maxim: “A good media professional is one who knows something about everything.” He explained that journalism remains the cornerstone of all media practices due to the foundational research and editing skills it instills in students.

Furthermore, Mr. Abdel-Radi highlighted the radical shift in the journalistic environment, noting that the contemporary journalist now executes multiple tasks independently under the concept of the “Comprehensive Journalist” or “One Man Crew”. This includes filming, editing, and crafting stories, which requires future generations to master diverse digital tools and keep pace with modern electronic platforms and interactive content management.

The visit included a comprehensive tour inside the website’s various departments, where students listened to detailed explanations from department heads regarding digital production and editorial workflows. They gained first-hand insights into the mechanisms of news gathering, video reporting, and managing modern newsrooms.
