As part of PUA’s commitment to aligning engineering education with global challenges, the Mechanical Engineering Department hosted a specialized scientific seminar titled “Engineering and Water”. Held under the supervision of the Student Activities Department, the seminar aimed to enrich students’ technical knowledge and direct their attention toward one of the most vital fields of the 21st century.

The seminar was presented by Eng. Ahmed Khairy, who provided an in-depth review of the latest global engineering trends in water desalination. He highlighted the pivotal role of engineers in addressing the global water scarcity crisis through the development of innovative and sustainable solutions. The discussion covered modern technologies that enhance the efficiency of desalination plants while reducing their environmental and economic footprints to meet future demands.

Furthermore, the seminar focused on professional development, as Eng. Khairy explored the promising job opportunities and growth potential within the desalination market—regarded as one of the most rapidly expanding sectors both regionally and globally. This event provided students with a prime opportunity to understand the labor market requirements in this strategic field, helping to prepare a new generation of mechanical engineers capable of leading water infrastructure projects with excellence.
