Tourism wins 2nd Place in the Best Community Research Competition

The Tourism Department at PUA’s Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, achieved a distinguished milestone by securing second place in PUA’s Annual Community Research Projects Initiative. The initiative witnessed broad competition with the participation of 12 faculties, activating PUA’s pioneering role in directing scientific research toward serving and developing the local community.

The winning project, titled “Economically Empowering Women in the Alexandrian Community: An Applied Case Study on the Kom El Shoqafa Area in Karmooz,” focused on innovating mechanisms to support Alexandrian women economically. This support is achieved by utilizing local architectural and cultural heritage, alongside leveraging handicrafts and traditional products to generate sustainable employment opportunities. The study highlighted the historic Kom El Shoqafa archaeological site in the Karmooz district as a landmark rich in cultural identity capable of attracting cultural tourism investments.

The project featured a practical initiative through a specialized competition titled “Dishes from the Memory of Alexandria,” where participants presented a selection of traditional Alexandrian culinary heritage with modern touches and professional hospitality preparation. The competition reflected a commitment to preserving the coastal city’s food heritage and presenting it in a contemporary style suitable for international tourism establishments, amidst a highly interactive and constructive atmosphere.
