During the National Reading Project activities at Al-Qirsh Camp in Ismailia, Prof. Dr. Karim Hammam, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education for Student Activities, delivered a pivotal speech emphasizing the project’s strategic importance in strengthening Egyptian identity and fostering a sustainable culture of reading among students, educators, and civil society. He highlighted that the project is built upon a comprehensive national platform bridging university and pre-university education sectors, allowing students full flexibility in registering their data and selecting reading levels that match their capabilities, while encouraging them to progressively exceed the 30-book milestone.
Dr. Hammam stressed the necessity of utilizing “critical summarization” as a tool to measure depth of comprehension and analytical thinking. He specifically warned against relying on Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for drafting summaries to ensure intellectual authenticity, which is strictly evaluated through a precise multi-level judging matrix designed to guarantee fairness and transparency.
Furthermore, he detailed the project’s structure, which encompasses 54 diverse fields of knowledge to ensure a comprehensive educational reach, with a particular focus on elevating the Arabic language and encouraging the reading of high-quality translated sources. Regarding logistical support, Dr. Hammam announced the development of an integrated system of coordinators within universities to facilitate student follow-up and coordinate cultural seminars with renowned authors and experts. Additionally, the launch of the “Book House” mobile library initiative was showcased as a means to expand book accessibility across various social environments.
To streamline the participants’ journey, the project has adopted an array of instructional videos and advanced digital platforms to ensure seamless registration and continuous progress tracking. He concluded by outlining the comprehensive incentive system, which includes significant financial rewards and honorary awards for outstanding students, affirming that strict monitoring and standards are in place to ensure that support reaches genuine innovators in the fields of reading and intellectual research.
