PUA’s Architectural Engineering Department organized an educational visit to the Egyptian Opera House in Cairo as part of the EA312-Architectural Design (4) course, supervised by Dr. Doaa El-Beheiry and Eng. Basant Afifi.

Ms. Marina Maher and Ms. Abeer Yasser welcomed the students and introduced them to the building’s various spaces, providing a detailed description of the waiting hall, the different types of theaters, surrounding spaces, main entrances, and VIP access points.

Eng. Thabet Saeed then received the students and escorted them to the Grand Theater, where he presented a comprehensive explanation of the main hall that accommodates 1,200 people, backstage areas, the balcony, and rehearsal rooms. He explained to the students the importance of control rooms, acoustics, electricity, and performance service management systems, along with the sound insulation system used in the theater.

As part of the visit program, students headed to Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah Mosque on Al-Moez Street, which represents one of the successful architectural restoration models, with restoration completed in February 2023, giving students the opportunity to observe a practical application of architectural heritage preservation techniques.
