Dangers of Smoking and Addictive Substances

PUA’s Student Activities Department hosted an awareness seminar titled “Dangers of Smoking and Addictive Substances”, delivered by Dr. Salam El Arabi, Alexandria’s Supervisor at the for Addiction Control and Treatment Fund, which affiliates to the Cabinet.

During the seminar, the lecturer reviewed the negative effects of these substances on physical and mental health, their impact on cognitive and behavioral abilities, as well as the social and economic problems that threaten the family and society. Dr. El Arabi addressed the methods used by drug promoters to target youth, stressing that claims about the “safety” of certain substances or that they “enhance focus” are completely unfounded, and that the first experience can be the starting point for full addiction.

In addition, Dr. El Arabi emphasized the pivotal role of youth in confronting this phenomenon, whether through spreading awareness among their peers or providing support to those facing substance abuse problems, in line with the state’s efforts to implement the National Plan for Drug Control. The seminar concluded with an open discussion that encouraged students to participate in volunteer activities and awareness campaigns organized by the Fund.
