AI Applications in the Pharmaceutical Field
Promoting interdisciplinary knowledge integration between technology and medical sciences, PUA’s Faculty of Pharmacy held a specialized workshop titled “AI Applications in the Pharmaceutical Field”. Held under the supervision of the Student Activities Department, the event featured an exemplary model of inter-faculty student collaboration, as it was presented by student Huthaifa Mustafa from the Faculty of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. He shared modern technical insights and their adaptation for the pharmaceutical sector before an audience of faculty members, teaching assistants, and a large number of students.
The workshop commenced with a historical overview of the origins and evolution of Artificial Intelligence, addressing the social and philosophical debates regarding the fear of machines replacing human labor. The session clarified that practical reality has proven the opposite; the human role has shifted toward broader and more specialized horizons. Artificial Intelligence has become a strategic tool primarily aimed at minimizing human errors, improving the accuracy of laboratory results, and enhancing the efficiency of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. It emphasized that the effectiveness of these technologies remains dependent on the human ability to formulate precise programming instructions and direct intelligent systems toward achieving safe therapeutic goals.
Such workshops reflect PUA’s commitment to preparing future pharmacists with skills that keep pace with the digital revolution. Such gatherings expand perspectives on the importance of “Pharmaceutical Digitalization” and its role in accelerating scientific research and drug discovery. Attendees praised the content for bridging the gap between programming algorithms and practical pharmacy, enhancing graduates’ ability to innovate in a work environment increasingly reliant on smart solutions and big data to ensure patient safety and the advancement of the healthcare system.
