Egyptian National Security Amid Regional Tensions
Pharos University in Alexandria (PUA) hosted an extensive strategic and awareness seminar titled “Egyptian National Security Amid Regional Tensions,” delivered by Major General Staff Dr. Ahmed Mohamed El-Shahat. The event drew significant attendance from faculty members and students, aligning with the pioneering role of PUA’s Community Service and Environmental Development Center (CSED) amid the accelerating challenges facing the region.
The event commenced with a speech by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Etman, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, who emphasized the centrality of fostering national awareness among youth and the responsibility of universities in supporting the understanding of strategic issues while instilling values of belonging and social responsibility. During the seminar, Major General El-Shahat explored the comprehensive dimensions of national security, explaining that it extends beyond military aspects to encompass political, economic, social, and intellectual domains. He stressed that the cohesion of the internal front and public awareness represent the primary foundation of the Egyptian state’s strength.
The discussion touched upon the nature of modern regional conflicts that rely on unconventional tools such as informational and economic warfare, highlighting the dangers of fourth and fifth-generation warfare and systematic rumors, while stressing the need to immunize young minds against them. The speaker pointed out the remarkable progress achieved by the Egyptian state in building its comprehensive capabilities, which enhances its position in confronting various challenges. The seminar concluded with a recommendation to continue educational activities on campus to support students’ awareness of national and regional issues, thereby protecting the nation’s security and stability.
