An Extensive Awareness Campaign on Antimicrobial Resistance

In support of national efforts and global initiatives to safeguard public health, and recognizing the critical threat posed by the escalation of antimicrobial resistance, PUA’s Faculty of Pharmacy conducted an intensive awareness campaign. This campaign aligns with the National Action Plan for Antimicrobial Resistance sponsored by the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), aiming to cultivate a well-informed generation capable of addressing one of the most significant health challenges facing humanity in the 21st century.

The event featured interactive sessions targeting both pharmacy students and students from non-medical faculties within the university. These sessions focused on raising awareness about the dangers of antibiotic misuse and the paramount importance of adhering to correct therapeutic protocols. These activities were the culmination of an intensive five-day training program organized by the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and ReAct Africa. The program was designed to prepare student teams from various Egyptian universities, equipping them with the technical knowledge and communication skills required to disseminate accurate health messages. The sessions were highly effective, drawing numerous students who demonstrated advanced awareness and a strong sense of responsibility as ambassadors for health education.

The proactive participation of PUA’s students underscores that community awareness is the vital first line of defense against antimicrobial resistance. Through these activities, the faculty emphasizes that protecting the efficacy of antibiotics is a collective responsibility shared by everyone, from healthcare professionals to individual citizens. Furthermore, these events reflect the university’s commitment to building strategic partnerships with local and international health organizations, ensuring the preparation of distinguished graduates who possess the leadership and cognitive skills necessary to contribute to sustainable development and the protection of global health’s future.
