A Visit to NMEC
PUA’s Architectural Engineering Department is committed to fostering students’ imaginative and creative capacities. Within this scope, the Department had a comprehensive field visit to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat and the Child Center for Civilization and Creativity in Heliopolis. The visit was tailored for fourth-year students (7th Semester) as part of their Architectural Design Level 5 course. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between architectural design theories and real-world implementation, providing students with direct exposure to iconic cultural landmarks.
The journey began at the NMEC, where students were honored by the reception of Prof. Dr. El-Ghazaly Kesseiba, the first-place winner of NMEC’s design competition and the project’s supervisor. He delivered a profound lecture on the museum’s nature and the intricate design of its components, including temporary and permanent exhibition halls, spatial distribution, and annex services. He further explained the complexities of vertical and horizontal circulation and the structural relationship between the building mass and the general site. This interaction significantly expanded the students’ understanding of the design and construction standards essential for world-class museums, enriching their technical and aesthetic knowledge.
The visit continued to the Child Center for Civilization and Creativity in Heliopolis, where students explored interactive museum environments that enable children to engage with ancient and modern civilizations. This segment highlighted the integration of various sciences within architectural design to create spaces that link the past with the future, a concept directly applicable to the students’ current academic projects.
