The Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC), the Printing Industries Chamber and the NilePreneurs Initiative with the Export Development Bank of Egypt launched the 1st edition of the “Pack Designer 2019- Student Innovation” competition which is inspired by the “Arab Student StarPack Award” competition which is organized by LibanPack and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) since 2002.

The winners of this competition included two Graphics Department students in the Faculty of Arts and Design: Salma Mahmoud Saleh and Ithar Yasser Foaud. Pharos students were among 300 students who participated in this competition from all over Egypt within the framework of an initiative organized by Nile University to encourage the Egyptian youth and develop their capabilities in the field of design and promote the small and medium-sized enterprises as well as entrepreneurs.

The Graphics Department students participated in this competition after presenting the packing designs they produced during their study of the course of “Package Design Techniques”, taking into consideration to design the trademark and the visual content of the packs according to the Egyptian market needs. These designs were made under the supervision of Assistant Prof. Amira Abd Allah and Assistant Lecturer Salma Farrag.

This competition aimed to open new opportunities for the Egyptian students to design packing materials for different local products of many companies in different industries such as: the Egyptian African Paper Products Company(Venus), Lactuel Cosmetics, Nilco International Company for manufacturing games and puzzle and Carrefour (Number 1 products). The applicant is free to choose products for his/her design. The jury panel, which included leading academics and technicians in the field, chose the best designs according to established criteria. It is worth mentioning that the 35 winners participated in the 8-day Bootcamp scholarship from Nile University with professors specializing in packing, marketing and business administration.
