PUA Participated in the Inauguration of the Multipurpose Applications by Thermodynamic Solar (MATS) Project in Borg El Arab

In the light of implementing Pharos University plan for community service, Prof. Hisham El-Shimy, the Director of PUA Community Service and Environmental Development Centre attended the inauguration ceremony of the Multipurpose Applications by Thermodynamic Solar (MATS) project in the City of Scientific Research and Technology Applications (SRTA City) in Borg Al Arab. The project was implemented by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; the EU- major partner in Egypt in the MATS project. Prof. Hisham El-Shimy attended the ceremony as one of the research team working on the MATS project. This was held in the presence of Ambassador Ivan Surkoš, the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt; Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Prof. Mohamed Shaker, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy and Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, the President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. The inauguration ceremony was attended also by a number of ambassadors of EU states. The MATS project is the most technologically advanced project in Egypt and the Arab World to apply the state-of-the-art technology in renewable energy that enables it to produce electrical energy up to one megawatt and desalinate water to produce 250 cubic meters per day. The MATS project was established in collaboration with eleven research institutions along with researchers from European and Egyptian universities, at a cost of 22 million Euro. The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology also contributed 2.4 million Euro to the project.For more photos Click here
