AE461 – Digital architecture
Course lecturer :
Dr. Mohamed Elfakharany
Course assistant :
Course objectives :
Explore the impact of advanced technology and digital tools on conceptions of architectural design, and Focus on computational systems that require engagement with latest technology and promote novel design abilities and limitations. As well as Understanding a theoretical focus on digital machine use within the process of design. Beside Improving the sense of relationships between digital tools, theories and digital experiments. Architecture experiments that concerning the process of using rapid prototyping and CAD/CAM devices in architectural design process.in addition to Understanding the idea of BIM (Building Information Model), Energy simulation processes, and other Digital concepts that affect the design theory, practice and visualization techniques in the last decades.
Course description :
Describe talent and passion in digital design and channels it into a range of creative design fields to enhance advent of geometry and mathematics computation. Define Form Follows Worldview through tracking the changes in the framework of thought in both sciences and philosophy during the last decade. Identify the shift in science from the \”Newtonian\” to \”Complexity\” paradigms. Explain essential design fundamentals with modern visual media projects including web design, graphics, 3D modeling, advertising and visual effects and how mentioned changes, technology and developments contributed to the shift in architectural ideology. Explain how the shift developed the metaphoric relationship between architecture and nature, beyond simple form analogies and mere aesthetics, into deeper analogies with nature\’s intelligence systems. Describe problem solving and data collection to understand the impact of advanced building technology on design. Associate projects with physical modeling and multi-dimensional visualization techniques, multimedia, applications and computer aided design.
