Welcome to Pharos University in Alexandria. As its name indicates, the ancient Alexandrian Pharos have stood the test of time because of their three emblematic facets of greatness. First, as an architectural wonder; it is a testimony of human achievement, in general and in ancient Egyptian accomplishments in particular. Second, as the ancient name of Alexandria, it is a landmark of the Alexandrian cosmopolitan appeal. Third, as a lighthouse, it embodies the endless quest for knowledge. The parallelism between the two “Pharoses” in these three aspects is intentional. First, the Pharos of the 21st century aspires to live up to its name, as a natural extension of the ancient wonder. To begin, PUA provides state-of-the-art facilities; ranging from up-to-date labs, detached study areas, a food court and well-equipped libraries. All these are set within a remarkably spacious campus of over 50 acres situated in suburban Smouha linked to all major ins and outs of the city. Such a distinguished campus prepares PUA to become a truly outstanding educational establishment. Second, just like the ancient Alexandrian cosmopolitanism, PUA stretches out to worldwide recognition. This is evident in PUA’s endeavor to achieve significant academic collaboration with high caliber international universities and institutions, thus establishing PUA as a global crucible of cultural interaction. Third, PUA’s unfaltering pursuit of excellence is reminiscent of its namesake’s role as a lighthouse. Indeed, the principles of Quality Assurance and Accreditation Program (QAAP) have been implemented from the start at PUA. Unlike many universities that are obliged to force their programs to suit such principles, PUA tailored its structure around rigid Quality Assurance guidelines since day one, thus enabling PUA to offer educational services up to international standards. PUA’s array of highly qualified staff, its outstanding programs, extensive extra-curricular activities, and community service plans, all urge its students, who are welcome from all over the world, to blossom as creative, independent, and productive citizens of the world who are ready to embrace life. Last but not least, it is worth mentioning that PUA was erected at a breathtaking pace.
